The Carib Sea plant growth medium works. The two large swords obtained from a nameless big-box store are even growing, although it was startling to see how little of the original two plants survive after three weeks. Despite the die back, the plants are beginning to grow.

In the meantime, Sagittaria sublata and micro swords came from my local store. The Sag. broke down into multiple plants, including the survivor in the middle of the picture. Micro swords are a pain already, and I am regretting the choice at the moment. I seem to remember a very different plant
